Global Context
Bullying is a global issue within all schools. It is not just a local or national issue. Bullying was taken to close attention in the 18th in scandinavia. There has also been a lot of well known cases that have caught the world’s attention. There is one case that has not been too long ago. The case of a 15 yr. old canadian girl who posted a video of her story and how she was bullied since 7th grade. A week later and she was found dead. She had committed suicide. Amanda Todd is a perfect example of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is one of the most common types of bullying that is being seen globally. In fact it is said that cyberbullying is more aggressive than physical bullying. There are less limits in cyberbullying because there is no adult or upstander to stop the abuse.
My fire project unfortunately cannot be solved in Global context. Bullying is a big issue that sometimes words cannot stop a person from abusing of others that are weaker. According to researchers bullying is caused by people who were abuse themselves or are going through difficult situations that they find themselves attacking other students. Global issues are really hard to address because there are more than 6 billion people in this world. According to nobullying.com (2014): 7 in 10 young people are victims of cyberbullying. This means that while we are trying to fix a problem in one city or neighborhood there are 7 in 10 people that are being bullied. Also, young adults aren’t the only ones that bully. Sometimes it can be the adult in the family. They may not bully physically, but verbal abuse is also considered as bullying. According to nobullying.com (2014), 67% of children would turn to their parents if they were bullied online. However, 40% of parents do not know how to respond if their child is cyber-bullied or how to set up filters on computers, tablets and mobile phones that could protect their children.
